Did Auction sniper cost me $$$??? Check out this link, my user name is mines!!! and the time of bid was left at the 5 second default, so why was the bid placed *54 seconds* before the auction closed? Bid history: http://offer.ebay.com/ws3/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBids&item=5714125945

In this other auction, auction sniper was much better, but placed the bid 8 seconds before the end, rather than the stated 5, though it didnt result in more cost to me

Someone from Auction Sniper support please respond with a logical customer focused explanation or I will look around for another sniper program.

Hmm - that might not happen but here are my thoughts...

The Auction ended at 7pm PDT (3am in the UK!) and your snipe arrived 54 secs before the end. Subsequently, 2 other bidders also managed to snipe before the end. Your gripe is that AS left a window for these other guys to bid, upping the final price by $10.

It remains to be seen if AS or eBay's servers were running slowly last night - if that was the case then that would explain the early arrival of your snipe although it doesn't explain why two other snipers were able to place snipes as close as 5 seconds from the end.

The fact that zekerd was able to fire off 3 bids in 19 seconds does rather point to him/her having sniping software but it does look like either human or machine was trying to beat you by 'nibbling' up to the line.

I guess we need Sara to explain what really happened. Cue drum roll...

Welcome to our forum!
I actually agree with both previous posts to your question. How do you know what you would have paid otherwise and you did win! I know that there are gliches now and then with AS, but Ebay is much bigger and it has gliches too....are you looking for another auction site also?
Yep, looks like a nibbler nibbled. Sorry about that.

We're going to be reducing lead times significantly in the next day or two on peak time snipes. Those are snipes that happen on the hour, and quarter hours from 5:30-8:30ish. During those times tons of sellers use eBays scheduling feature and a log of listings all end at the same time. eBay then acts sporadically. Our systems monitor snipe times on prior snipes and adjust and at these times we increase the lead some too. Our first trial we cap the lead time at 30 seconds. If that succeeds we'll continue to adjust it down until an acceptable number of snipes are lost do eBays tardiness at those peaks. Currently we miss very few but the snipes sometimes get nibbled up. It's a trade off between potentially not having your snipe make it to eBay at all or not. Hopefully we'll have it in place before Sunday so we can really get a good test of it on Sunday night.

Maybe so, but you won the auction. Sheesh!
True enough, but I'm a sniper too, everyone here at AuctionSniper is. None of us wants to pay more than we have to. We're working on this and we will be making things better as best we can while still keeping snipes safe and making sure they get placed.

You'll be seeing a lot of improvements over the next 6 weeks.
