Would AS bid against self?

Suppose someone does a normal, manual bid on an item and is the only bidder. Then the person finds out about AS and decides to use it on the same auction. How would it work?

My guesses:
Scenario 1: No one else bids--then the manual bid is the winning bid, no AS made.

Scenario 2: Other bids make someone else the highest bidder. Then AS works as normal.

Scenario 3: Other bids, but manual bid is still showing as highest bidder. AS bid has higher max. AS kicks in only after manual bid max is passed.

Am I right?
