I think that was genuine! He bid $10, then thought he might be sniped at the last moment, so bid say $20 to make certain he won it.

I have done that - idly bid on something because its cheap, then come back and put a more serious bid on it. It's commonly called indecision!

P.S. I have now looked at this auction properly and see what you'r on about Shopping! Sorry. acute attack of post Xmas stupidity. Must be the brandy in the Xmas cake as I've not had a drink - so far - this morning! Yes, I see your point. Could be genuine though, as its a silly enough reason! I also have an item that I bought at an auction locally that the wife will not allow in the house on grounds of taste - may put it up on ebay with a warning notice about consulting the wife before purchase!
