We have received this question before. In every case, it has been that the person does not understand how eBay's proxy bidding system works.

The bid was made hours earlier by ktownfatcat. The winning amount's total of $12.00 did not show until BillAllen's snipe of $11.50 raised ktownfactcat's proxy. Before that, kt's bid would have shown as $1.49, which was .50¢ above the next highest bid of .99¢.

You never, not even after the auction, have any way of knowing the full amount of the winning bid. You only see the amount it needed to stay one increment ahead of the second-highest bidder.
