Theoretical sniper question

If i am currently the highest bidder on an item by bidding normally on ebay - and i then use auction sniper to place a higher bid incase i am outbid.

What will happen if there are no other bidders? Will the bid remain the same as i am outbidding myself, or will i outbid myself and go to the next increment?

I just dont want to end up paying more by out-bidding my own bid lol
