Sniping on my own bid?

If I currently have the high bid on an item, and place an order with auction sniper to hedge/protect my status as high bidder from possible rivals, will auction sniper issue a bid to exceed my current high bid on Ebay?

Also, has the lead time issue been solved? What really is a "safe" lead time for sniping?
