No, you don't have to do that, yd. Just sell things on eBay as well.

I think that in the three years or so that I have been using eBay (200-300 auctions) my balance just about hovers around zero most of the time.
Many things I have sold would have previously been dropped off at a charity shop or put on Freecycle.
