Great suggestion here. But...

If you'd be willing to pay the second or third tier, why not just slip that top/full bid in at 9 seconds in the auction?

Same result, but less exposure to other buyers responding to your early bids. (or last bid not being placed on a Sunday due to heavy traffic!)

Or am I missing something?
