Should eBay impose three charges on sellers in reserve bid auctions. Whether your answer is "yes" or "no" it's not going to make any difference. What eBay says, goes.

I go back to eBay's early times and the rates then were low, ridiculously low compared to present rates. But the services offered weren't as varied or comprehensive, either. And the number of items up for sale was "only" 250,000 at any given time instead of millions as it is now, which means many more (expensive) servers and support staff. As eBay's expenses have gone up, so have their charges. You have to pay to play.

Oh, and they didn't have reserve bid auctions back then, either.
