While I am not familar with your scanner, all of them have the option of what to save your pics as when you scan them or when you use the *Save As*.
The best way to save your images is as a .jpg, so just make sure you select that from the drop down menu when you have saving.
My old Cannon scanner had the file selection in the *tools* section. You could default it to .jpg. My new HP just scans them as .jpg then if I want them to be something else I just use the *save as*.
