Thanks to all for the feedback.
Yep, the bidding outran my max snipe, so I got involved manually.
Still seems to me that the AS should be "smart"enough to distinguish when a bid is placed manually after the snipe amount is exceeded.
My expectation.
My problem.
and
My last minute decision to increase my bid beyond my original threshold of pain.

So what did I get? A very rare item, and now I'm not sorry (very happy!) I bid high. I am not sore that AS got a cut.
AS's cut is always a bargain.
I just "wish" AS was smarter.

As long as I understand, I'm all right with whatever the AS policy is.
But I did not find the FAQ... so I asked... and you all were very nice to show me what you knew.
So here I am, waiting for the next bargain!
