We've had a few electrical storms this week, too.

Shortly after buying this computer I had a surge protector burn out as a result of a spike. Fortunately the computer wasn't harmed. I've heard that most surge protectors don't work with the really big spikes so I always unplug things during electrical storms, too.

During one storm a year or two ago I was very careful to unplug the computer but forgot about the TV, DVD, and VCR. A surge fried the VCR's innards.
