You did everything right, but the reserve price was more than $25.

AS does not bid incrementally. It's eBay that does the proxy thing. AS sends your MAX amount, first time, every time. >eBay Help Page<

At eBay, the current price does not jump to the reserve price untill it is met or exceeded. Before and after that, the current price is displayed just as it would be for an auction with no reserve.

This is actually a good thing for the bidder. Nobody but you (and eBay's computers) know the max you were willing to pay.
