Actually, you are looking at sniping and AS as something new, possibly because they are new to you. Both have been around for a few years, and snipers still represent only a tiny fraction of eBay users. This question has been asked before, and the response is that eBay has 50 million members and growing, so snipers will always account for a sliver of users. This is especially true for the majority who just get on eBay and do not spend time learning bidding strategies and all of the nuances--they just bid!
