Yes, and if you would still be happy to pay as much as $5000 you would be correct in placing a $5000 snipe. You should always bid very late in the auction, and bid the maximum amount you would be happy paying.

Be careful to not get caught up in the 'Win at all cost' game. If that gizmo is only worth $2000 to you, bidding 5000 could be a huge mistake. It may be worth 4000 to someone else, and you would be stuck owing the seller $4100.

That's the hard part, deciding the max amount it's worth to YOU.
