A shad is a herring. Herrings are clupeids. Clupeids are bony fishes. English mothers use to warn difficult children that if they didn't behave, the terrible Bony would take them away. That Bony, was Napoleon Bonaparte.

Now, herring might also refer to "red herring", which "distracts attention from the real issue". So, I fear I may have forgotten what I learned from my schools.

Now, I know that "PFOF" is important, because you added it as an after thought, but I don't have a telltale idea?
