Is 6 seconds too long?

Hi all,
I recently won an auction using AS and got it for my max bid. I NEVER thought the bid would go that high, but some yahoo upped the bid by $50 in the last 2 seconds of the auction. Yes, the last 2 seconds! I had my snipe set for 6 seconds. Should I have gone closer?
