RE: Horrific New Orleans conditions and seeming incompetence. Unlike the mayor of NYC who responded immediately to rescue/recovery after 9-11-2001 (including a well manned emergency triage unit that was set up and ready to go just a few hours after the WTC collapse, but was, alas, unneeded!), it seems the mayor of New Orleans has spent more time complaining and finger pointing than to do anything useful. The governor of the state of Louisiana hasn't been much better. The feds. have kept hands off initially until the incompetence of the city & state governments became apparent -- are more involved now.

Next question: rebuild New Orleans or let it as is as a testimony to the folly of trying to maintain a pseudo-Atlantis city under the sea (level)?
