I think the safety experts recommend putting young children in a child car seat and putting them in the back seat to avoid the air bag problem.

Child car seats are required here by law for children under a certain size, age, and weight. Unfortunately (in my opinion) this law can't be enforced on the Indian reservations and I see a lot of kids riding in the backs of pickup trucks. Many times there is no adult back there with them. Pickup trucks are the most common type of vehicle on the reservations and more than once I've been behind a pickup with a young child leaning over the side. This scares me to death!!! Frown
