Montana has been a you decide state -with narrow 2 lane roads and unlimited speeds. Few laws and fewer police - But the sheriff and his posse are just around the bend. Tourists really get a surprise when they decide to speed across a bridge only to realize its only one lane and a car is coming at them. New York is almost all two lanes except when the road passes under a train crossing its only one. When transporting a child anything distracting the driver should be ilegal. They haven't been able to widen roads going under tracks as the railroads usually own the right of way These are local county roads and they don't have the money to fight the railroads. The state condemns property in the public interest all the time to widen state roads - even bypass whole towns.
If you have ever seen a seat air- bag deployed you would never let a child sit in front.
