the sellers I know like it - after all the sniper has to have the highest bid. I bid higher than I would if I were engaging in a bidding war the first time because I do not have a second chance. Other buyers do not like snipers because they are not willing to place a high bid to begin with.
Sometimes I win and sometimes I lose - the same as when I sniped on my own. One advantage I have with AS is bidding on multiple auctions that fall at the same time as is the case with many sellers.
