Sure, the primary objective of and reason for sniping is to save money. But there are some intangible secondary reasons, too -- winning consistently, not having to sit at your computer until the auction ends at 3 AM, and above all, avoiding the aggravation caused by "nibblers." I'm sure Forum participants can come up with other intangible benefits unrelated to saving money.
