The whole point to sniping is to make one bid during the closing seconds of an auction. You will only get one shot, so be sure to bid the absolute max you are willing to pay.
Notice that I said what you are WILLING to pay, not what you HOPE to pay. Rather than readjusting your snipe amount as an auction increases, just decide on what your absolute max is, set it and walk away. (Otherwise, you may get caught up in the heat of bidding and end up spending more than you had planned--something that AS is supposed to prevent.) AS will take care of the rest. If your bid is high enough, you will win--hopefully for less than your max, depending on what others bid. But you certainly won't pay more than your max. If you lose, it will be because you were not willing to pay as much as the other guy.
