The false warnings are a little scary, but don't worry to much about them. As I understand it, AS will send your bid even if it thinks it's to low to win.

Best place to watch closing auctions is at eBay, as you can only update prices at AS once every 5 minutes. For more spread out auctions, watching them one at a time, check out >THIS< web site.
