Welcome, Jack. Glad you won. AS is not new; I have used it myself for nearly three years and it has helped me win over 900 auctions. So their record is an admirable one.

eBay (and sometimes AS) often go down for maintenance between 1-3AM PST Friday mornings. Since AS never really knows if the regularly scheduled eBay maintenance will occur or not, that is one time that snipes are generally sent in minutes early, as yours were. It sounds as if at the moment the other bidder came in, the system was not down. Oh well, you won your auction and that is what counts. Here is what eBay's board had posted this week:

***Scheduled Maintenance for September 3rd***
The eBay system will be undergoing general maintenance from approximately 01:00 to 03:00 PT on Friday, September 3rd. During this maintenance period, certain eBay site features may be intermittently unavailable or slow.
