Accidental strategy?

I stumbled into a way to win an auction for me last week.

Looking at an inexpensive item, low interest (only 2 other bidders). Current bid $2. I wanted to enter on eBay a $2.25 bid. Missed the decimal and the bid actually went in as $225.00 (nuke bid!)! Of course, at that point I was the high bidder at 1 bid increment above the high bid held in reserve, which was $5.58. Hmmm! I retracted my mistaken bid, reentered a bid for $2.25 (which was exceeded; current bid = $2.50), then set a snipe for higher than the $5.58 bid. As it turns out, there were no other bids or bidders and I got the item for $6.08.

I can see this not working in auctions with alot of bidding action especially toward the end of the listing, but it worked in this case! Wink
