hi, this is my first post. naturally it is a rant!

i mostly look for domain names and on-line businesses at ebay.

what i continuously find is ridiculous!

at almost every domain name auction (which are usually cheap), the seller requires a "transfer fee" up to $25! mostly, this is more than the domain name itself! im not sure if you guys know like i do, but it doesnt even cost anything to transfer a name anymore (it did years ago)! most of these sellers have domain managers where all they do is go in and change the name to reflect the new owner (i have the same thing).

why does ebay allow that?

also, time and time again, i have found NUMEROUS "online businesses" for sale, but upon investigating, i have found that some scammer has merely bought a domain name (9 bucks) and forwarded it to a free vstore store, and it LOOKS like a business. problem is, the buyer will never even OWN the store and what if vstore goes out of business, like a lot of free services do?

unfortunately, mosr people do not realize what is happening! i contacted one of these sellers and he said that everyone knows what he is doing, and so i said "really"? ok, then ill contact all your bidders and tell them they can get a FREE vstore and then see if they still want to PAY YOU for what they can get for free!

he made me sooo mad!

why does ebay allow crap like this??

also, in regards to sniping! i just found this today and it is very cool (if you are a buyer!) but could really suck from a seller standpoint!

i myself usually list for 7 days, meanwhile, i advertise elsewhere and if i get a buyer elsewhere, i close the auction! who knows! maybe i had snipers waiting for me! lol

Why would AS suck from a sellers standpoint?
Sellers make more money...High bidders win!!!

the sellers I know like it - after all the sniper has to have the highest bid. I bid higher than I would if I were engaging in a bidding war the first time because I do not have a second chance. Other buyers do not like snipers because they are not willing to place a high bid to begin with.
Sometimes I win and sometimes I lose - the same as when I sniped on my own. One advantage I have with AS is bidding on multiple auctions that fall at the same time as is the case with many sellers.

If sellers aren't willing to sell their item for the winning bid price, then they will set their starting prices higher in the future.

There is all of this junk called "wholesaler lists" for car parts and what not. It is such a scam!

They only make a few bucks per auction winner, but they sell this junk in dutch auctions; selling 100's at a time.

Everytime I see this I get really upset, but then again, people shouldn't be so stupid! If it sounds too good to be true it probably isSmile

Yesterday I was searching auctions and I found one that said he could auction other peoples' stuff, but only because he was a "unique" member of Ebay. I forget what he called the system. Anyway, why would any member of Ebay have another member auction off his items? Guess there's one born every minute! Roll Eyes

And when I win an auction for a book for $4.00 plus shipping and I receive the book with a price tag still stuck on the cover for $1.00...
Okay, so making a profit is what selling is all about, but do they have to make me aware of how much they made? Golly! Wink

I've seen it all. This morning I found a seller holding dutch auctions at $2 a pop for "Lowes 10% off Coupons"...not the actual coupon but how to obtain one... and people are buying it. Funny thing is, you can get the information free at http://www.thesavingdepot.com/print.html.

Nothing about this surprises me. I think Rickdogg is probably right - if something looks too good to be true it probably is. But if you can find a way to make money by playing on people's stupidity and gullibility and greed then so be it. The principle on eBay is "caveat emptor" - let the buyer beware - just like in the real world. Why should the virtual world be any better when there are fools to be fleeced?
