Can someone advise me on a good way to send an online money order now that Bidpay is no more? Thanks in advance!

Haven't dealt with online money orders myself. But what happened to Bidpay???

I would think that it would be different depending what part of our planet you are on, Lizzie.
Here in England, it costs money to send an MO, so I never do. How about PayPal? |

Hi- Thanks for your reply. I am in the US. I would greatly prefer Paypal, but some sellers refuse to use it. Bidpay has ceased to exist as of January, so I have no idea how to send an online money order. There must be some other easy service to fill the void, but I'm at a loss. Any suggestions??

Thanks Roadman, but Westernunion.com will only send a m.o. if the person receiving will go and pick it up- they won't mail it to their address anymore- sellers won't go for this, obviously. Plus, I can't order this online. IOW, I would have to go to a Western Union office to do it, according to their website, which I spent some time on trying to figure this out. Big problem if I need to handle this business in front of a computer. Just looking for something convenient.
I wish all sellers would use Paypal. Most do, but there are enough who refuse to make it hard. I'm at the point now of only dealing with Paypal sellers unless they have something that I MUST have. (I deal in antiques) |

Must this money order transaction happen ONLINE? Can't your just go to your local post office, Wal-Mart, or convenience store and pick up a money order? Agreed! Last week I had the good fortune(?) of winning an auction for which the seller ONLY took money orders?!? Grumble...grumble...didn't notice it in the auction listing UNTIL I went to check out! One thing about these inflexible sellers is that it SEEMS their items may get fewer bidders and go for lower prices than those sellers that take PayPal. In my case, I was pleased with the price for which I got the item, but then was perturbed to have to pay an additional fee to get the money order the seller wanted. Oh well, one should always carefully and completely read the auction listing! Jabbergah |

Could I go somewhere and buy a m.o.? Yes, but that's not at all convenient, since I do all my buying here at the computer (I don't sell on Ebay, yet). Bidpay was so easy, even though it did cost. I'm just surprised that some company hasn't come in to fill that void. Bidpay did a lot of business from what I understand.

This may be a silly question, Lizzie, but why not just send a cheque? If the seller neither does Paypal nor accepts cheques (I have not dealt with anyone like this) I would walk away.

How did you do that? It still seems to work, whatever it is. |

Mike, Roadman had another post, and it contained “Auctio” instead of “Auction” in the URL. The previous post got deleted. |

Mike- I have been sending checks out of necessity, but that's not the best option for me. Here's why: I have a credit card for my business (I pay it off every month, so I carry no balance). That gives me a convenient statement with all of my purchases. I can use it to pay for auctions through Paypal, which is quick and safe, and I can do ALL my business at the computer, very convenient. And, I earn miles for every dollar.
For sellers who refused Paypal, Bidpay was the next best thing for the same reasons mentioned above. That's why I'm looking for another secure online m.o. provider where I can use the credit card. |

I see what you mean now, Lizzie. I do prefer Paypal as well - much lower pratabout factor (Mikeism). I have probably been lucky as most things I sell or buy accept Paypal, but I just use cheques otherwise, as MOs and fund transfers cost a fortune in England! |

Now I see - amazing what a missing bit of punctuation can do! I thought Roadman meant he had trashed someone's website! Need more coffee....... |

Check to see if your bank offers online banking. If they do, then you can add the seller to your "Payee" list just like you would if you were going to pay your VISA or phone bill online. Once you've added them, you simply tell your bank to cut a check for the correct amount and send it to them. Once you've received your item, you go back in and delete the seller from your Payee list.
I've been doing this for several years, and I've never had a problem. And by doing it this way, you see it on your monthly banking statement so you can keep track of purchases. |
