I really wanted the item, so I snipe with a three second lead and bid $1000 for an item I did't expect to get more than $400. My bid gets placed with 28 seconds to go. The guy who was previously winning is sitting at his computer and ups his bid by $50 with ten seconds to go. I still won the item, but AS cost me another $50 AND they'll want to be paid for doing so. The worst part is that I happened to be at my computer and watched the whole thing play out. Had I bid manually I would have saved the $50 plus whatever AS charges.
Early bids have allowed non-snipers sitting at their computers to outbid me and bump my bid higher many times. Does anyone have a sniper service that places the bid at the correct time? Why ask for a lead time if it's going to be placed arbitrarily anyway?
Sorry if these stories are always posted, but this is my first time, and I'm not too familiar with the content here. Thanks.

This idiot (I'm allowed - s/he was rude to me back in 2003!!!) gets this item for much less than the $1000 that they would have bid and still whinges! Good luck with your search for an alternative...

How do you know that this guy was sitting in front of his computer? If it was just one bid, how do you know that he wasn't using a sniping program as well? Which would have made the end result the same no matter what time your snipe was placed.
