I'm new to eBay (as of a week or so ago), and I'm finding out already that there is at least one MAJOR jewelry seller willing to risk a negative feedback over a measly $7.00. I'd like your comments/suggestions for handling this.

I won a bid, checked the seller's terms, and went through the checkout process immediately. Afterward, I went back to double-check the terms, which said, "$7.00 shipping and handling is included."

So I sent the seller a quick email letting him know I had processed my payment, and that after referring back to his terms, I discovered I had erroneously sent him $7.00 too much. I asked how we should handle the credit.

His message back to me (the next morning) said the $7.00 was not included, and that I was responsible for that cost.

I went back to the item page and discovered he had changed his web page. Needless to say, it no longer said shipping was included.

I didn't know sellers could change the web pages after an auction, and I have to tell you, it doesn't give me warm fuzzies.

The seller sent me a VERy friendly message after that one, saying he had sent my item and that he would really appreciate my leaving him a positive feedback. Right...kiss my what??...

He left me a positive feedback already, and I feel like he's trying to "play" me so I don't give him anything less than a positive feedback. If anything, I would give him a neutral, but at this point, I don't want to give him anything.

What would you suggest?

After an auction is over they cant change the text, unless it's an image. Then they can. Of course without seeing the auction I couldn't tell if it was an image.

I dont know this is a tough one espeically since they changed the text. I might just take the loss and leave a neutral, but if you feel very strongly that you are right then I would leave a negative. Just dont do it in the heat of the moment.

I forgot to mention in my last message, that it wasn't the $7.00 I was struggling with; it was the principle. I couldn't believe a seller would jeopardize his feedback over such a small amount. I've decided not to leave any feedback, since I don't have anything nice to say.

Hellsbelle, your proposed (in)action is probably the best thing you can do. Remember that the seller always has the opportunity to post a comment on your feedback. You might do yourself more harm than good by putting up anything other than a positive feedback. I'd like to point out that S&H is *not* included in most eBay sales, and unusual circumstances such as you describe call for a printout copy of the item description. You have no comeback against the seller if he changes the text (which as you have learned is impossible unless the writeup is a photo) without a copy of what he originally wrote. Caveat emptor -- protect yourself

But, the whole point of feedback is to tell about how that person dealt. If they did something wrong, that should not be hidden from other people's view.

Place neutral feedback if in doubt.

Read all the fine print my friend. As sellers we cant change things after bids are placed, sorry buddy
