eBay has been having server problems since a little after 7PM PDT today. These problems are affecting your ability to enter snipes into our system and in some cases our ability to snipe items. We are monitoring the problem but cannot do much until eBay comes fully online again.

You can track eBay's own announcements here:
http://www2.ebay.com/aw/marketing.shtml?ssPageName=home:f:f:US

We'll post again to this forum once we can confirm eBay is online and all snipes are again going through.

Is that why my snipe status said "undefined" for an auction I clearly would have won?! End time for the auction was 8:30pm PST. AAArrrrhh!

Surely you meant I clearly might have won if my snipe was higher than the eventual winner's max (which, of course, I have no way of knowing)?

Remember that AS doesn't guarantee a win, it just stops the bidding war - it's always the highest bid that wins, not the last!

I canceled a snipe (CONFIRMED)with a little over an hour to go. The snipe was placed anyways and I won the item. It ended on May-09-05 18:43:35 PDT How should I proceed? (Besides having to pay for the item like I normally do when I win an auction.)

Best to file a support case using this link: http://support.auctionsniper.com/

An alternative is to see if AS support responds to your post.

region2: "which, of course, I have no way of knowing".

yes, yes, yes.... if it makes you feel better - while there is no 100% way of ever knowing, with a little homework, it's pretty obvious in some situations. The auction was won for $20. My AS was for $160+. The same bidder never bids more than $75 for the same items from the same seller. Sombody else could have bid / won but they didn't. You do the math.

I did not say anything about AS guaranteeing a win nor am I bashing AS - just venting some frustration (at the loss of the auction - not at AS or even EBay). I merely posted to see if my symptoms might have been experienced by others and then learn that some Ebay troubles can result in the "undefined" status.

Quite simply - if this was the result of Ebay issues - I'm done. If it's an AS issue - I'll request a free snipe or something. At the end of the day - I'd just like to know the source of the "undefined" status to see if it can be avoided in the future.

I'll word my posts better in the future to save you having to post a reply Smile

Mr. Donovan, perhaps the eBay announcement should be placed in the top AS "news" folder, as a reference for all.

I noticed the problem myself when I was trying to leave feedback last evening. Frown

Good point. I usually don't post in the news section so the thread ended up here.

As for the outage, eBay stated late last night that the power went out at one of their database colo facilities. So some groups of items were offline and could not be bid on. This effectivly stopped us -- or any other 3rd party service -- from bidding on those items.

Once eBay came fully back online we were already placing bids successfully so it looks as though nothing else has been affected. Also we've updated the import wizard for a change eBay made yesterday, so you should once again be able to import watched items.

I noticed that on Infopop’s forum, there appears to be a way to have a Featured Topic (those that start with in the topic text) replicated (my own wording) to multiple forums. Even the responses in any one thread will appear in each of the replicated threads. It does make for a lot of redundancy, but it might also keep things centralized. Whenever there’s some major problem with sniping, users will post in multiple forums. Often, the same response has to be pasted into the multiple threads/forums. Perhaps using these “replicated” threads would cut that down.

After the problem is fixed, these could be deleted.
