Sniper In Training

I love the pager notification feature, which alerts me when one of my snipes is losing so I can choose to sign in and up it if I want to. However, an aspect of its behavior is very annoying to me.

A few days ago a snipe I had placed was losing. This wasn't too surprising, because it was something I'd decided I wanted only if it was very cheap. I got paged about it, and that was of course expectable. The problem is, there was a little bidding war going on on that item, and AS apparently paged me every time someone upped the bid again. So, as I sat in a business meeting, my phone kept vibrating and vibrating until I finally had to turn it off. Moreover, I pay $0.05 per page via my cell provider, so the excess pages were wasting my money. (Thank goodness not much of it.)

I'd like to suggest that the optimal behavior would be for AS to send only one page to let me know I'm losing my snipe, and then shut up until after I change it. (After all, I'm still losing, right?) If I sign in and raise the snipe, then it should reset and again notify me if I'm again losing.

My solution to that would be to decide what I am willing to pay, set my max and walk away. No need for further messages until the auction is over. Wink

Tom,

That seems like a reasonable request. Don’t see why you need to be told multiple times. You might want to file a support request:

Normally, by the time I get around to my e-mail notices, the auction is over with. I try to make up my feable mind on the max and leave it go.
Sometimes I will go in and modify if I decide I need it more than I thought I did. Or, I delete the darn thing cause I don't need it that much.
