I would give about anything if I could still work...at least tour once in a while, but life makes unexpected turns sometimes. I really do get "housebound bored"!

Don't get me wrong ... I love my dog, but I try to skip the puppy/kitten stage with pets ... I adopt the older ones to avoid 'accidents' and chewed shoes and ripped furniture and . . . My current *child* (he's 5) still thinks shoes are fair game, and sometimes I come home to find entire couch cushions in shreds! One day he ate the corner of his bed (yes, he has a full size bed) chewed it good and had the springs poking out everywhere

bj, I traveled in my job with the government, but after retirement did some occasional lecture tours. The last one I tried, I had to come home early because my husband did not respond well to his caregiver. So, for now, I will stay here and drive you all crazy!!!!! LOL!

My sister and I took care of our mother for the last 2 years of her life ... I'm not quite sure who was driven more crazy ... us or our mother! Definately an experience I don't ever want to repeat, but it gives one an appreciation of a lot of things. Minor aches and pains seem petty to me now and I value my free time more than anything - even if it's to veg on the couch (or play with animated gifs)!
For the most part things are fine, but it's been hard on both my wife and Mother-in-Law. Wife doesn't want mom to run the house, mom is used to running things, and really just wants to help.
Fortunately, mom is in good health, so we haven't had to deal with those issues - yet, not something I look forward to (she's 80).
Biggest thing I miss is the loss of privacy. Kids are in college, but don't have the house to ourselves, oh well - it's better than mom living by herself. My wife would be a wreck worrying about her, and I'd probably spend most my time at my mom's place fixing things.
Biggest joke around the house, is "I'm up". When the boys are home, or if it's just the three of us - if there is anything to do in the kitchen - the first thing out of mom's mouth is "I'm up" - doesn't matter if me or my wife are standing in the kitchen and mom is in the family room - she's up - just trying to help....
I guess a lot of people are in this situation..I am in the opposite situation. I find myself with a 3 year old to raise!...does she keep me young..are you kidding?..but she does keep me on my toes!
