Just had a flash I wanted to share:
scenario: 10 snipers, all biding on same item, each using outrageous bid amount technique to be high bidder

Action! (last seconds of auction): mini bidding war as proxies struggle to determine high bidder

closing scene (winning sniper's bid site) "I won!!! $501.03??!!!! OMG! the thing is only worth $25! OOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
closing scene (seller's site): rubbing hands together briskly, "HEHEHE!"

HAHAHA! Cool maji is NOT high

happy sniping

majipoor,

This is more a misunderstanding of how AS and eBay works, but kinda along the theme you suggested.         >>Click Here<<

majipoor,

It's kind of like running stop signs - you're OK if there isn't a cop around or someone else around that also doesn't stop.

Also, I've always been curious why a person that is willing to pay more then anyone else will is called a "winner".

This seems to feed the myth that snipers bid outrageously high amounts--more than they expect to pay. I find that snipers are very clear on obtaining the item at a price they are willing to pay, and I think few bid otherwise. Razz

I agree, Mrs. M. Poor Maji is going to start comparing us to airport security-guards

"Joking about serious matters is no joke..."

(grin -- joke all you want, just don't paint a target on your forehead unless you WANT to get hit by cream-pies!)

Yes, but if we didn't take you seriously, what would *WE* joke about?

Anyway, I'm generally with the papparazzi -- if you're showing your mug in public, you're fair game!
