Ok my situation Before I found this board I did the following

-The current Ebay auction is at $78 8 hrs left
-My max ebay bid is $110
-I have competition and want to win this item

-Should I

A. I want to snipe my max bid more to $120
B. If I do that will it bring the max bid against me to 120? saying if noone else bids??

Also whats the best lead time? 5-4 sec or less?

A snipe is just a proxy bid placed one time at the last possible moment. So, Ebay will use only the part that is neeed to win, considering the snipe is set high enough to win! As far as time, it depends on when it ends. If you have an auction that ends on Sunday PST between 5 and 8:30 pm or on the hour, half, or quarter, I add 10 to 15 seconds. I personally use 8 seconds normally, but some use less. It is MY personal choice.

Also,

I use a 7 or 8 second lead time except durring very busy times like Sunday evening/night or auctions ending on exact quarter hours in the evening. For those times it's been suggested to add 10-15 seconds. For Sunday evening AND on exact quarter hours, the suggestion was to add as much as 20-30 seconds.

Max bid... That's the hardest part about using AS. You need to find the highest dollar amount that you'll be happy to pay if it goes that high. If you still lose, you should be OK with your decision because you didn't want to pay that much.

No. You will not be bidding against yourself. The price may rise slightly, but only to fill the bid increment.

Example:
Your current max is $110
I bid a max of $109.50 (you are still the winner for $110)
If you snipe for a max of $120, you will win for $112.
    (or one full bid increment above my 109.50)

If my max were $100, you would win for 102.50
Your snipe for $120 would NOT increase the price.

Note: If you snipe and win, you will be charged a fee or free snipe, even if your early proxy bid won the auction for you.

Yes, that is the initial feeling when you first join, but then it fades a bit and you tell your friends--at least not the ones who bid on the same auctions you do!
