This is the second time this has happened to me using AS. I put my bid in - the auctions ends at a lower price than my snipe bid and I lose. I reference the snipe for that day and it says bid increment too low.

Is there something I don't know about as far as bid increments go or is something not working right with AS?

My example is that the auction I lost ended at $7.09 and my bid was $7.50.

Thanks,
Cat

Cat,

In your example, ebay’s bid increments required that you bid a minimum of $7.59 just to have your bid recorded (placed) – and that doesn’t necessarily mean it would have been the top bid.

I looked at ebay's response to my snipe and it did say that if would have had to have been 7.59 to enter into it after the lower bid.

I guess there is no real way to know exactly how it is going to go. Thanks for cleaning that up.

Ebay says on its help page that a bid increment can be less than the normal one if that last bid is the winning bid but below the bid increment. It looks like if you placed your bid manually you would have won, but AS recognized your bid as too low using the standard increment and so did not place the bid at all, even though it would have been the winning bid. I lost a $75 item this way by 25 cents, I think someone has a program to outbid a snipe by 25 cents or so in the last second of an auction. In other words AS is being outsniped.

Sadly Friar, 'AS recognized your bid as too low' is factually incorrect - AS doesn't do anything clever when it snipes...

As I understand it AS places your snipe no matter what and then reports back with the message (be it win, lose or too low) as if it was you bidding.
