Today AS failed to put a bid on for an item it looks like I would have succesfully bid on. Anybody know if I have any case with AS for a claim?

The last I heard, the only "compensation" would be in the form of some (I think 2) free snipes. Use the following link if you're interested:

AS doesn't guarantee a win so there is no tangible loss; they do give free snipes for a good hardluck story though!

I was in this same situation today. Luckily I was by my computer and checked to see how much mu AS bid was, about an hour before the auction ended. After repeated tries I could not get in, and had to manually bid on the item. I was NOT happy, but I did get the item, at about $60 less than the same items were going for.

AS needs to have a process where if their server and backup is down a third system sends out an emergency email to the fact that your bid won't be placed. I had no idea if the website was just down and the servers would place the bid or not. I decided not to take the chance and bid myself at the last 3 second mark.

FYI, if you have a snipe set and the site is down and you place a manual bid, check your balance. In these cases, I've often gotten a "You Won!" email when the system came back up, and been charged for the "snipe" when of course they never issued a snipe on my behalf, I won the item because I did a manual bid.

If enough folks demand refunds from support, perhaps they'll fix this particular bug...
