Sniper In Training

My lead time is set for 5 seconds. In the past, Auction Sniper usually placed my bid about 7 seconds before the auction ended. Today I used Auction Sniper for the first time in a while. My bid was placed 14 seconds before the end. The second place bidder was bidding manually earlier. At 10 seconds I was high bidder at $15.50. I won the auction but ended up paying $20.50. The second place bidder was able to get a bid in at 6 seconds before the end.

I realize the second bidder may have also had a snipe set for insurance but he also could have been waiting with a $20 bid and saw my bid. Auction sniper is suppose to save us money by preventing other bidders from seeing our bids with time to react. I feel my early snipe may have cost me an additional $5 on this item.

Although I'm shown here as a Sniper In Training, that's not really accurate. I've used Auction Sniper to win over 200 auctions.

I came here for an answer. Perhaps I should rephrase my question. If my lead time is set for 5 seconds why was it placed at 14 seconds?

Sorry JW, but this question is asked over and over...

AS adjusts lead times to accommodate slow network/server times - better to bid early than not to bid at all.

As to whether the other bidder was reacting or not - it's unlikely that he could react in that time (4 seconds) so it was 99.99999999% certainly a snipe - have you checked his bidding history elsewhere?

Obviously you won for less than or equal to what you were willing to bid so take the optimistic view - "I won - hooray!"
