Hello, I set up this snipe with a 6 sec lead, but AS placed the bid 16 seconds before the auction closed. I'm not sure what happened, but it looks like that was time enough for another bidder to respond with three actual bids (not proxies).

Should I just chalk this up to one of those things, or is there something I can do to prevent this in the future.

That's funny! From the links you provide, I should (a) read the forums (b) contact support (c) chalk it up to a glitch on Dec 18, 2007 (d-g) accept variations on these bits on non-advice.

Little secret, Ricky Rescue: I read each and every one of those threads before posting. So, I'll ask again. What can I do to prevent this from happening, or is AS playing loose with their description of lead time (and leaving that bit out of the FAQs).
