I've used AS a lot and won much with it, but lately what I quote as my Maximum has been what I end up having to pay. E.g. put maximum of $253, and as it was closing it was going for $250. Why didn't I get it for $251? Another time, the item was going for $50 and my max was $61. AS sniped it for me at $61, which seemed a big increment when $51 should have been sufficient to win it. I understand about increments, but $11??

That's due to ebay's increments, but at $250 the increment is $5, so that doesn't explain going from $250 to $253. Unless you post a link to the auction, no one (users) but support will be able to assist.

AS doesn't bid in increments, but the amount you specified. Again, best to post a link to the auction or contact support.

To contact support use this:

p.s. Were any of these a reserve auction?

There's no conspiracy but we need the links to the Auctions to comment further - I guess the 1st one was a bid increment thing, the 2nd was a proxy bid and you won against an existing bid of $60. Frustratingly you could have won with 60.01 (assuming the proxy WAS 60) so remember to add a few pence/cents to your snipe so that you increase your chances of a win even further with the added bonus of annoying the 2nd place loser!
And remember AS just places your max bid, it's ebay that does the rest!

I suspect region2 is right, but links to the auctions WOULD be nice.

Thanks for your quick reply. Item no 170198006883 was my win. Just happened to go for exactly what my Maximum bid was. I must be a good guesser!

Going through my other purchases, I can see my AS bid was probably an increment above the previous highest bid.

AS is such a great help to those of us who have perhaps a bit more money, but not the time to bother to follow every auction.

I hope it remains legal..... Roll Eyes

loraines, you didn’t win by a full increment because at the time of your snipe the price was $202.50 (Bidder-1’s $200 + $2.50 increment). To place a bid, one need only bid an increment ABOVE the current price, but they need not WIN by an increment. The increment changed at $250 from $2.50 to $5.00, so you used up your entire $253 bid to beat Bidder-3, but had you bid $255 you would have still won, but it would have cost you $2 more. AND, had you bid $250.01 you would have still won.

All’s well that ends well.

It's unlikely ebay will change it after this much time.

170198006883 - Your snipe was up against Bidder3's proxy bid so you won under ebay's system. If you had sniped 260 then you would have won at 255 (the next increment) so it was your lucky day!

I cannot see any other bids you've placed in the last 30 days...
