Bid on item 260354728728 not lodged and winning bid was less than mine.
AS status on failed bid is 'did not win'.
How does this happen?

Regards

Paul

Click on Confirmation button next to the snipe. If that doesn't explain, then:

This has just happened to me as well.
I bid more than double the bid that won the auction, but I got a report saying I did not win.

Clicking on the link which said I would find out why, simply took me to AS Home page, I logged in but there was nothing to say why I had not won the item.

I came to this site and followed the instructions from Rick (Sniper Deity) but this did the same - took me to AS Home page etc etc.....

Have now sent message to http://support.auctionsniper.com.

I am absolutely furious at losing this item - why bother with auction sniper if it isn't going to place your bids?

And even more annoying is that they don't tell you why, just have you spend ages in a fruitless search for the reason.

Meanwhile, what if other bids are not placed while I wait for the answer from support?

Off now to put my bids on manually - can't trust AS to do them anymore.

Don't confuse "winning bid" with "proxy bid", Chatter. Baggiez's statement is accurate.

On Item 120369646539 on the 6th Feb AS did not lodge my snipe. My top offer was way higher than the one that apparently won so there was no reason why AS would not place the bid. My lead time was the standard 7s. The AS "status" after the auction end was "Did not win" which is not on the list of possible statuses, so I don't know what that means. There is no ebay report because ebay never received my bid. I think AS has got a problem here, because apparently I am not alone with this experience. It needs proper investigation. Rick, or whoever at AS is dealing with this - you must realise that as Mother Goose says this sort of behaviour totally undermines one's confidence in the AS system, as you can't rely on your bids going in. So, you have to revert to manual bidding. Please investigate the cases reported here and find out how this happened.

Thanks, Rick, for the clarification.

SO, is nobody at AS monitoring this Support Forum for possible glitches like this, that no-one else except AS can do anything about?

How do I contact AS?

TIA,

Tony

I have just found in the "News and Updates" Forum a thread called "Increased Number of Snipes with "Did Not Win" Status" from October 2008, in which Mike D. states the following:

October 2008 >>We have received an increased number of reports that snipes have failed to be placed over the page couple days, for which the "Did Not Win" status has been returned and, upon further investigation of these reports, we noticed that these failures were caused by some changes eBay made to their "view item" page that interferes with the way our system parses information from eBay.<<

Looks like the same general type of problem again.

Tony

Hi Tony,

I'm sorry to hear your snipe on this item was not placed. You may have already heard back from our support team regarding this matter but, in case you have not, I reviewed your account and found that your snipe on this item was not submitted because the snipe was scheduled to be placed when our site was down for weekly database maintenance.

We take the Auction Sniper website offline for database maintenance every Thursday night in the US at approximately 11 PM PT and it remains down for about 4 hours. We try to place any snipes that are scheduled to go off during maintenance to at least give those users a chance of winning, but it is not uncommon for snipes scheduled to be placed during maintenance to fail.

If you have any additional questions or concerns, please feel free to contact our customer support team using the web form on the following page: http://support.auctionsniper.com/

-Mike

What? That's absurd! Any snipe placed that should fire when you're down should be flagged in bold red so that the sniper knows there is a GOOD possiblity that it won't.

What kind of BS is it to post that info here, where most users won't see it?

I have recently had the same problem as Mother Goose, Tony Cox, Chatter and other fellow 'snipers'. AuctionSniper simply failed to place my bid, as confirmed by the bidding history for item 330347436818. It does stir your emotions if, having taken all precautions, you lose an item you need most among all your snipes. As with other snipers, AS did not give any explanation on its 'reason' page, it was blank. Worse, when I contacted it via its support page as instructed, having waited for some 10 days, I did not even have the courtesy of a reply. I have stopped using this service after such an early disappointment, and I do not want to resume until I at least have notice of steps taken to rectify such a serious defect in the service. The company should at least give automated notice of 'maintenance' or any other possibility of any sniper bid failure, so that alerted users can bid in person.

Hello Ladykiri,

Thank you for posting and bringing this to our attention and know that I'm very sorry you have experienced problems with services.

After looking into your support case history, I see that you contacted support on Wednesday August 5th at 2:45 pm (PST) and a reply was sent to you by Michelle at 3:11 pm (PST) that same day. It's very unfortunate that this response never reached you.

I have contacted support and you should receive an email very shortly in order to assist you with this matter.

Please know that we value your business very much and hope you will continue to use us for your sniping needs.

Respectfully,

Steve

I had the same thing happen to me not once but twice. I lost two items with absolutely no explanations. If it happens again, I may have to find another site to use. If there was an explanation attached (for example: lead time off or down for maintance) I wouldn't be so upset - but absolutely no reasonable explanation. Guess this is America - freedom of choice and my choice will be three strikes and your out. AS has two now....

As you know I had this problem last year.
Three times my bids failed to be placed by Auction Sniper.

Then I looked at what I was bidding on - in each case it was knives. Not that I'm a budding ASBO-type, I wanted some small butter knives.

So, I went manual and did my own sniping. To find that e-bay threw out my bid and I had to input all sorts of identification info.

By the time I had done this, the auction had ended.

BUT - next time I went to bid for butter knives, it accepted the bid with no problem.

It was just about the time that e-bay were getting their knickers in a twist over adverse publicity re selling really nasty knives.
They said listings for cutlery would not be affected. Butter knives are cutlery and as blunt as a spoon, but I had to go through the e-bay equivalent of strip-search.

Maybe the other cases were the same sort of thing, bidding on something e-bay are ultra sensitive about?
