2784435226, My snipe bid was 40.00 the auction ended on £39.20. My bid was never entered but the message from AU was bid too low.

Please explain.

If your bid had been just a little higher it would have been recorded, but since we don't know the winners max, you still may have lost.

But would'nt the increment go up to at least cover my bid of £40.00?

Nope - the minimum bid had to be 40.20, and that still might not have been the winning bid.

To verify that, go to a still active auction, and click on 'place bid'. It will show the current and minimum bid amount. If you enter an amount smaller than the minimum your bid will be rejected as to low, or invalid.
