Hello, Since yesterday I can't log on to Auctionsniper.com site at all. I can log on to this forum obviously. I have deleted cookies, visited websites etc. but it keeps timing out, I've never had this problem before with this website.
Soemthing is blocking it as I'm having no trouble with any other site and I was able to get to the main site only by using my history tab. I cannot move from this page either when I click on the tabs, it is very frustrating as I wanted to buy three things today, thanks.

It’s working for me. Be sure to check “remember me”. If that’s not the problem, best to file a support request:

Believe it or not, I can't go there either, something is definitely wrong, it's like someone attacked the computer and won't let me near the actual site. I always leave "remember me" checked. When I try to log onto anything but this part it times out. I don't know if it's my firewall or something else. Oh, I've been using auctionsniper now for at least 6 months with no problems and I use it quite often. When I click on any tab above I time out, I can only go here.

If there was something wrong with AS, there would be several users leaving posts/threads about it on this forum. Sounds like something on your end, but that’s just a guess.

I'm sure it's on my end, I thought maybe someone else had had this problem, maybe. I'm going to check some other things.

I had this problem once - everyone - except me could get into a particular Company's website! They all said "its working" but I couldn't see it at all.

First try to "Ping" support at Auction sniper to get its IP address as your computer sees it

Mine sees support.auctionsniper.com as 209.142.29.187
Does yours?

You need to get into what we all used to live with in the old days - MSDOS!

Go to "start" click on "run" - type "cmd" in the box - up comes the black DOS screen then type in:
ping support.auctionsniper.com

If you get another number, try and flush your DNS cache - fairly simple (but if you have caught a virus, it won't help) This re-sets things.

Go into "Run" from the Start menu type "CMD" and that familiar white text on black screen will appear.

To get into the root directory type: CD\

Then type:

ipconfig/flushdns

This will get rid of an incorrect DNS

If that doesn't work, then perhaps something has got at your hosts file (edit in notepad) and is redirecting your computer elsewhere (a virus?)

Try:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

(That's where mine is on Windows XP, but you may have to hunt round for your)

There just should be (typically):
# Copyright (c) 1998 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP stack
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

127.0.0.1 localhost

If yours has more entries than this, I suggest you delete them. Read up on the Host Programme before you do - there is a lot on the web as I discovered. I now have a little programme that locks it and keeps it from being hijacked!

Hijacking a DNS is not that unusual (I suppose its like a medical condition - until you get it, you don't realise that there are a lot of other sufferers!)

Hope that helps

Paul
