HI---I have a weird question and am not sure if this has been asked...I tried to look around but couldn't find the answer. I apologize if this has been asked before.

There is an item i have to have listed on ebay. I'm worried that there will be a lot of last minute bidders using AS to bid. Even if I were to place my snipe with my maximum bid (let's say using lead time of 6 or 8 seconds), i'm afraid that there might be other ebayers that have registered snipes with AS with less lead time (say 4 or 5 seconds)....so even if AS were to put in a bid for me 8 seconds before the end of the auction, and then AS subsequently puts in another bid for another ebayer right after my bid, and then when AS gets ready to put in another bid for me (assuming my maximum bid is higher than the last bid), what if that bid doesn't make it to EBAY on time and the auction ends?

If there anything I can do to ensure or minimize the chances of this happening?

I hope I"m explaining this correctly......What if i were to put in two snipes in AS, one with lead time 8 and then another one with lead time 4? i would end up bidding against myself, if no one else bids on this, right?

I would appreciate ANY help on this! thanks.

You can learn about Proxy bidding >Here<.

Because all bids are proxy bids, AS only needs to place one bid for you, your Max. It's eBay that accepts your max and does the proxy process. It's not the last bid that wins, it's the highest accepted bid that always wins.

Example:
  • Current price is $22 and winners max is $25.
  • You snipe for $32.15 Current price is now $26 with you as winner.
  • Another snipe for $28.50... You still win for $29.50 because eBay has your max at $32.15
  • Oh no! another snipe for 32.50 and they win... You should have set your max higher. But then again, maybe that's to much money for this trinket? Another will come along to bid on soon, and it may sell for the 'right price' (less than your max)
Good luck and WELCOME to the forum.

Can't speak about the other snipe services. This is the first I found, and stuck with it.

Check out bid groups. A VERY cool feature. Lets say you wanted 2 new pillows. You could enter 25 auctions into a bid group. After you win your 2, the remaining snipes are automatically canceled.

Welcome! AS is simply the best. I have used them for two and a half years, to win 821 auctions thus far. Stick with them! Big Grin

That just begs the question: 821 wins out of how many bids placed? I'm curious as my wins run about 95% of the snipes placed; the loses being mostly "proxy outbid".

I have won 822 out of 891 snipes, which comes out to 92.2%. Of the 79 I did not win, almost every one was simply because I was outbid. Only two snipes were ever not placed.

I consider that an extrmely reliable record for AS. Big Grin

I suspect that our "success ratio" will be matched by most AS users; at least those who do a lot of sniping.

Don't want to rain on the parade, fellas, but if you're winning >90% of your auctions, you're paying too much.

I've only lost 2 snipes over the time I've been using AS, and do not feel I've paid too much. I set my maximum I'm willing to pay, and let AS and eBay handle the rest. (Who knew someone else wanted to pay more than $75.00 for a used audio tape!!! Eek I know I would have paid up to that amount. Smile )
