I need a little help from an expert. I just won an auction with AS. Here are the details: The current price was $36.00. My snipe was $38.17. The bidder with the $36.00 bid had bid a maximum of $38.01. Since my bid of $38.17 did not meet the $1.00 bid increment above his $38.01, I'm supprised my bid was accepted. It appears I don't fully understand the bidding process.

Care to share an auction number?
Your bid does not have to be a full increment above his max, it has to be a full increment above the current displayed price. Next increment above $36 is $37. [This message was edited by Puppy Raiser on February 03, 2004 at 12:42 PM.] |

What a GREAT $0.16 win! Can you imagine all the nasty things that were said about you by the losing bidder?!?
The solution/answer to your question is in your own post!: quote:The rule is: to be accepted your bid MUST be AT LEAST one bid increment above the CURRENT winning bid. Ebay tries to award the winning bid at 1 bid increment above the second largest bid. Failing that, Ebay awards the win to the HIGHEST max bid, even if it is only higher by one penny! As long as your bid meets the requirement that it is at least one bid increment above the CURRENT WINNING BID, it will be accepted. Now you know why we suggest using an non-even bid number! It worked for you! Congrats! Jabbergah |
