I was outbid at the last few seconds. On investigation my snipes are timed for 4 seconds and when i looked at the bid that i place it was placed 7 seconds before the end of the auction and not 4 seconds as requested. This gave my opponent to outbid me. What is going on as I could have done this myself!

Check your confirmed bids against your timings and see if there is a difference to why you were outbid as i would be interested to know if you are all suffering the same!

You might want to search the forum (“Find” tab above your post) on “early” and “snipe” or “early” and “bid”, or just “early”. If you’re still uncertain as to why, and no one else gives you something more definitive then I have, then come on back.

impos1,
7 seconds vs 4 seconds will not give any extra chance someone else to win, unless the other bidder snipes it as well.

P.S.: In the latter case, timing does not matter anyway.

AS sends in your snipe as if it was you biding. They track network and server speeds then adjust the lead time to ensure your snipe is placed rather than being too late.

The chances of someone reacting in 3 seconds is nil. The reason your were beaten was that someone bid higher than you.

It's not the last bid that wins, it's the highest!

Read the FAQs, read the forums, read eBay's Help on Proxy Bidding and all will be revealed!

It's comforting, at least for me, to see the forum back to "normal".
