I keep seeing posts that the system is back up. Yet, I haven't been able to log in for a couple of days. I have auctions that seem to be still bidding ... and losing. I can't log in to change the bid amounts.

I'm not having any problem getting into "My Snipes" page. Your best bet might be to file a support request:

It has been days and I still can't log in. My auctions continue without me...

I have tried Safari, latest Firefox on Mac (10.5.x). Explorer on Windows (XP Pro). I get back an error after minutes that says the server "failed to respond". Doesn't seem to be on my end.

And yes, I tried the support request (Rick) but didn't hear back from anyone. Anyone home?

Rhino,

This is only speculation, but with what’s taken place in the last week, and this being a holiday (they may even be working), they could well be sorting through a LARGE number of support requests. If the support request is still active, then it’s probably just a matter of time. You might try what I try when I call a business and get the “Your call is very important to us. There are only 515 callers ahead of you. Your call will be answered in the order that it was placed.” I call them on another line, and sometimes the 2nd call beats the first (I doubt the support staff will be all that thrilled with this suggestion, so once one of them gets an answer, best to delete the other).

Typically, as the forum has recently witnessed, when there’s a problem impacting users one will see not only multiple posts on the subject, but also multiple threads. Currently that hasn’t happened, but the day is young.

It’s working for me, but your question isn’t “Anyone else NOT having this problem?”

You must be entering either your userid or your password wrong. Maybe you changed your eBay userid and didnt update our site so you're entering the new one but our site has the old one on file, etc. But anyone who types in the right userid and password gets in, that much I know.

No entering user id or password wrong. I have a program that enters it for me. One day it worked, next it failed. Anyway, your saying a wrong bad sign in just freezes the connection that results in a timeout? Ooo, why didn't I think of such a user friendly interface.

I've now tried three computers and three browsers. All get a connection timeout after a couple of minutes. Does this seem like a DNS issue? Please, someone must know how to resolve this. My day job is IT so I know the things to try on my end.

If you've checked "Remember me", then your best bet is to file a support request (see link in above post).

Just a thought - I had a similar problem two years ago with a web site the deals with commercial links called Trade Doubler. Everybody else could log in for it seemed for there were no complaints at all on the discussion forum and I couldn't whatever I tried! (must have flushed my DNS cache half a dozen times!)

Lots of suggestions on the forum all tried without success, until somebody suggested I tried a Trace Route. Then looked up the DNS of Trade Doubler - sure enough they didn't match!

Then told to look in my Hosts file. Some sort of malicious re-direction was the general consensus.

At that point in the investigation (I was trying to do one of those "identify the virus problem" over the web) the whole pack of cards came down around my neck and I had to re-install Windows XP.

Moral of this story:
1. Don't run external virus investigations however good their provenance!
2. Have a peek at your Hosts file to see that some evil spirit has not made a home in your computer!

Thanks for the replies. I'm on a Mac so I don't know if some of the advice applies. Never heard of flushing a DNS cache. I've got my routers pointed to openDNS via IP addresses for DNS.

I discovered more today:
* http://www.auctionsniper.com/ - can't log in from anywhere in my house on any computer, Mac or PC.
* https://www.auctionsniper.com/securelogin.aspx worked from my iMac physically connected to a switch.
* https://www.auctionsniper.com/securelogin.aspx failed with: 'Safari can’t open the page “http://www.auctionsniper.com/securelogin.aspx” because it couldn’t establish a secure connection to the server “www.auctionsniper.com”' from a MacBook Pro using Wi-FI. FireFox failed too but with this error "The connection to www.auctionsniper.com was interrupted while the page was loading."

Okay, found out I could flush the Mac OS 10.5.4 cache from Terminal with "dscacheutil -flushcache". Still no joy. Confused

I found two IP addresses for auctionsniper.com: 65.49.8.141,65.49.8.142. I tried to use those instead of the domain name. Both connected to the web site but I could not log in with either.

I am having pretty much the same problems as you , Rhinoboy.

I wondered about the fact that all traceroutes to the two main auctionsniper.com addresses you listed are failing somewhere within Hurricane Electric's network - no matter WHERE you do them from. That seems suggestive of a routing problem outside of the AS site but within their provider's. But it could be misleading as AS might simply have turned off external ICMP responses in their firewall.

The fact that *some* pages are accessible (and the fact you can even log in via the secure login page) points more toward internal routing issues somewhere within or behind their firewall.

Network config problems can be really intractable unless you have really top notch network specialists at your beck and call. AS needs to get hold of such people pretty darn quick now and bugger the cost, or soon they will not have any business left to protect.

Today I couldn't log on anywhere!

Eventually, after an hour's fruitless attempts to log on, figured it must be the latest MS patch (if in doubt, always blame Bill!) Did a "rollback"

"Bingo" Internet access returned

Problem? Didn't diagnose it till this evening. Conflict between the latest XP patch and Zone Alarm

If you are having similar problems and use Zone Alarm, head for their forum!

Paul

P.S. Having no problems whatsoever logging in to AS main. So don't blame AS, it must be something to do with your computer - if it wasn't there would be hundreds complaining (see the posts when AS was really down?)

So it wasn't just me??? My "firewall" turned into a prison wall! It wasn't letting my computer to connect to the internet for 2 days! I thought it was my service provider. I finally figured out what was causing the problem. The solution that seems to have worked for me was to re-intall the ZoneAlarm firewall. I wish I could have seen this message before, but as I said earlier -- I couldn't connect to the internet! Mad Truly a catch 22....

None of the fixes have worked for me. I still can't log in. Connection timeout 100% of the time from Mac, Windows, several browsers. How can I live without AS? Life has no meaning...
