I sniped an auction last night. I had it set for 5 seconds. The bid went through and the item was won. The problem is is that I could have won it for less had the snipe time and ebay time been the same. My bid went through on ebay 1 minute and 16 seconds before the auction ended, not my lead time. Therefore, another person was able to come in and do two manual bids before the auction ended, boosting the price up.

What's the sense in selecting a lead time if the time is completely ignored?

Is this normal?

Hi CW... and Welcome... Bad news... (or Good?)

Times were not off. It was done on purpose.

When response times slow down between AS and eBay (as always on Sunday evenings) AS will adjust lead times to make sure your bid gets placed. This is especially true if auction ended on an exact quarter hour.

Not a great solution, but it's better to bid early than to late and get a message from eBay that the auction has already ended.

Over a minute?!?! Traffic problem and response time is getting worse, not better.

Thanks for the explaination. Why would quarter-hours make a difference? Something special happen then? Very rarely do I have any auction that ends at a quarter-hour time. Most are odd minutes and seconds.

Thanks again.

Cw, on the hour, half, and quarter hour you can have Ebay start and stop your auction automatically, so there is loads of traffic. They do'nt do it at any other time.
