"so you don't get a few more things...oh well!"

Seeeeeriously missing the point.

Many people use eBay for more than casual impulse shopping. We use it to obtain "one-of-a-kind" items in our various fields of interest, the sort of stuff that may NEVER come up again. That's why AuctionSniper is so invaluable - and why it's such a major annoyance when it goes "pop" all of a sudden.

They can apologise as much as they like, offer whatever they like as compensation - but they'll never be able to get you back that item you missed out on...

Could you post a link to some/one of these auctions?

There's nowt worse than a 'loose' auction"!!!

How funny - AS goes down for a short time and the one-post-wonders come out of the woodwork saying that they'll never use AS again, blah, blah, blah.

The road is strewn with cars that are abandoned by the same muppets - it breaks down and they get out, walk home and buy a new one!

And as for Dr Doolittle, s/he should know that the best way to bid for a must-have is to bid manually yourself as it's not what AS is designed for.

Grrr!

On another note as somebody that is in IT, what kind of a colocation facility is down for a full day? Is this a joke? Real colocation facilities have multiple fiber connecitons from multiple vendors coming from multiple directions. Power is simmilar. This should not be possible.

As someone that's in IT, you should already know that nothing is foolproof. To rely on AS to win all your auctions is foolish in itself. Find another supplier besides ebay for your business.

I manually sniped an auction last night because I knew AS was down. I lost. I'm not sitting here blaming AS because even if the site was working I still would have lost. Two more people sniped within seconds of my bid. The winning bid was almost $20 higher than my maximum. There's no guarantee that you'll win even of AS is working perfectly.

There seem to be a few people here who need to put their Ebay bidding into perspective.....so you don't get a few more things...oh well!

Thank you for a refreshing burst of fresh air. I am amazed at the melodrama that I see posted here.

“Our”? Don’t you mean “my”?

What do you suggest they do to keep “your” business?

Hi Community,

Update - I am pleased to report that this issue was finally resolved at about 9 PM PT yesterday evening, so the Auction Sniper website and services are available once again. If you are still receiving a message stating the site is unavailable when you visit the site, you may just need to flush your DNS resolver cache. This can be done via the following process:

Windows:

1) Select "Run" from the Windows "Start" menu.
2) Enter "cmd" in the ensuing field and click "OK".
3) Then, in the black DOS window, type "IPCONFIG /flushdns" and press the "Enter" key.

Mac OS:

1) Open a terminal window on your local machine.
2) Within the prompt, type lookupd –flushcache
3) Once you run the command, your DNS resolver cache will flush.

We apologize for any inconveniences this problem has caused. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please feel free to contact our customer support team by completing the web form on the following page: http://support.auctionsniper.com/

-Mike

I use auctionsniper to bid on rare records. I've also seen mention of books. We are talking about collectible items that there may not be more than a few dozen of in existence.

The whole reason I use auctionsniper in the first place is so that I *don't* have to sit in front of my computer or track the auctions I'm interested in. Otherwise this service doesn't have much value.

Of course there's no guarantee you will win any item - but I'd at least like a snipe to be executed nearly all the time.

Has anybody tried using multiple services for sniping?

Fair enough. Perhaps you'll post a link to one of these auctions that AS didn't snipe due to the recent problems? And (I know I'm being pushy) how about providing your bid amount?
