I have tried to import and modify auctions and I keep getting error messages and nothing is happening. Is the site down?

I tried this and it does not seem to correct the problem. The import feature seems to be working this morning, but the "modify" option still generates an Error message. I see some others are having the same problem.

I know this is becoming boring because I have said it several times - do try and understand that the following actions do not work if you are using Internet Explorer.

Warm or Cold Booting the machine will do nothing
Using the back button is also equally useless

You need to make certain that you clear all cookies and all temporary files before you go fault finding!

Why? Because the files remain on your computer even if you switch it off completely.

You can do this in Internet Explorer by:

Tools >> Internet Options >> Delete Cookies >> Delete Files >> OK.

Double check you have cleared all cookies by:

XP Professional (I think XP Domestic is similar) keeps cookies under Documents & Settings>Owners name>Cookies. This is what is flushed by the Clear Cookies command. It is completely unaffected by re-booting.

Ditto the Temporary Internet Files. To check the veracity of my statement. Clear all the files, then visit a distinctive site that you never normally visit (No not one of those! - I was thinking of the Inland Revenue - what minds you people have!) Switch off your computer and then look at your temporary files again (You can find them in Tools >> Internet Options >> Settings which will then tell you which directory/folder they are in. You will see switching off has no effect on the records of where you visited. (That's how the Police trace what sites you have visited!)

If you don't want the bother of clearing files out and simply want to get things working that moment, don't press the back button or the refresh button all they do is bring up the copy of that page that is is already in your cache.

Hold down the SHIFT key and press REFRESH on the browser bar This is the only way you can force the browser to re-visit the server.

I hope this has cleared up why Switching Off, Pressing Refresh and Using the Back Button don't work in getting you out of most problem situations.

Well, Camera, I did try your shift/refresh. It worked on the second attempt, but however, so does the back button! I have XP. What would be nice is for them to fix what is broken! Wink

We put a few new servers in place on Friday. Most people arent getting these errors, but some people connecting to the new servers are. We'll address this on Monday and the error messsage about "invalid viewstate" will go away. Until then using the refresh or submitting a few times until it works will do the trick. Sorry.

The site will run much faster though because of the new servers. We hated to put 3 new servers online on a Friday but we really needed to get them going. So starting Monday afternoon the error should be gone and the site should load faster as well.

You sure know a lot about hiding things from the police! You must be a useful guy!

Sara - Thanks for letting us know what is going on.

I assure you, it has not been as simple as pressing the back button for me. I'm maybe getting the desired response one time out of twenty. From looking at the other threads, lots of people are having lots of problems. Those familiar with AS will weather it, but new folks are lost.

Since your desire is sniper support, may I offer two suggestions toward that end?

1)Please let us know sooner next time what is going on, and what might remedy the situation if a remedy is available. In fact, if you anticipate even the possibility of problems, post it on the forum first, so people can add or cancel snipes reliably before things get problematic. I think there is a section just for messages from Support, which could then be copied to every trouble-report thread (or those with trouble might be directed there).

If those pre-anticipated and aforementioned problems do arise, everyone will know you are already on it. How comforting, confidence-building, and efficient! If those problems do not develop - even better! You were SO on it that it never happened! Everyone is happy for the cost of five minutes to post a message.

2)As AuctionSniper continues to grow and make improvements, consider trying new things and bringing new things online on a Monday/Tuesday timeframe, when eBay traffic is probably lighter anyway, the AS crew are probably more available (an assumption on my part, perhaps incorrect), and the bugs can be worked out BEFORE the heavy weekend traffic and new visitors show up en masse.

I will be so happy when AS is working well again! Thanks.

Suggestion: Don't Delete Cookies

Deleting the temporary Internet files is a good thing but deleting cookies is a bit extreme as they can do 'good' things like remembering that you've already logged onto AS so you don't have to log in again. I keep mine tidy with Ad-aware but never delete them as doing so means I have to remember passwords and re-log into sites I use regularly.

Obviously if you view 'dodgy' material which you pay for with a credit card then do keep these files as empty as possible as the Police will be knocking on your door with a heavy hammer very soon but remember that a techy person can even view deleted files...

I'd also suggest that the Refresh button doesn't just bring up a page from cache (temporary storage) but does actually get the page re-downloaded from the server as opposed to the back button which gets it from cache... [F5 = Refresh in IE!]

Hey, anybody out there know why my address bar keeps dumping the addresses I've looked up. It's very irritating!!!
I'd ask computer kid, but I'm not able to talk to him right now. ((( he's on his way home ))) Big Grin

....I just realized I put this in the "auction sniper not working" thread. I realize it has nothing to do with AS.
